Joplin, Missouri in 1959 is the birthplace and birthdate of Jeff Legg, an emerging artist. As early as four years of age, Jeff was demonstrating his aptitude for drawing and by age 12 was an apprentice to a well-known regional artist and art professor. That foundation provided the impetus to study further at Atelier Lack and the Minneapolis Center of Art & Design.
Now residing in the Ozark Mountain foothills in Pineville, Missouri, Jeff Legg set out early for a business career; yet by age 30 he was painting full time. In the 15 years since, he has honed his skills as a realist through workshops and juried exhibitions. Two short-term workshops with David Leffel and Sherrie McGraw in Taos, New Mexico cemented his thorough dedication to realism and heightened his method of chiaroscuro so often employed by the Old Masters such as Rembrandt.
Deftly using layers of opaque and transparent paint, Jeff produces light and shadow to render many of the small subtleties possible in working directly from life.
He is one of the Signature members of the "Oil Painters of America", and his work has been featured in "Southwest Art Magazine", "The Artists Magazine", and the book, "200 Great Painting Ideas for Artists" by North Light Publishers.
