Born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina, John Carroll Doyle is known for his colorful and luminous paintings of scenes from the South. From blues musicians to egrets to Charleston "flower ladies", Doyle is continually finding inspiration from the historical city that surrounds him.
A self-taught artist, Doyle got his start painting restaurant commissions for eateries in downtown Charleston. He then branched his clientele to places as far out as Chicago, Illinois and Alexandria, Virginia.
Currently Doyle continues to live and work from his studio in Charleston. In addition to painting, he as also explored the medium of photography, with several books to his credit including Femininity and I See London, I See France.
